And the winner is…..Horton Hatches the Egg submitted by Mary. I have contacted Mary and will be sending her the authographed copy of Hungry For Your Love this week.

Here is Mary’s winning description of why she loves this book.

“My favorite book of all time is “Horton Hatches The Egg,” by Dr. Seuss. I know it sounds silly, but it’s true.

As a preschooler I had my daycare provider read it to me so much, she actually threw away the book and pretended she lost it just so she wouldn’t have to read it anymore. (I learned that secret years later.)

It’s more than a fun rhyming book. There are values all children should learn, laced through the pages. Here are a few.

1. Horton the elephant teaches a strong work ethic.–He not only takes on someone else’s chore, but he embraces it.
2. Horton the elephant teaches that a promise should never be broken. He took his vow to heart and refused–even at gunpoint–to leave the nest.
3. Horton the elephant shows that love has nothing to do with what we look like. He develops a bond with the egg. In today’s terms, he taught tolerance.
If you haven’t read it lately, I would encourage you to do so. It was the first book I read to my children and we read it at least one per year.”

Besides, it’s hard not to love a character who proclaims, “I meant what I said and I said what I meant. An elephant’s faithful, one hundred percent!”

Now I have more titles to add to my reading pile. I’ll have more contests in the future so check my site often.
